Thyroid cancer-Types, Symptoms and Treatment

Image
Thyroid cancer is one of the thyroid conditions in which the cells in the thyroid gland undergo genetic mutation & grow abnormally.  The thyroid gland plays a vital role in our body's metabolism, growth & development by releasing hormones into the blood. Any effect on the thyroid gland results in severe changes in our body.  Let's have a look at some of the types of thyroid cancers that are identified by researchers- Papillary thyroid cancer: 80% of cases are of this type of thyroid cancer with a high rate of recovery. It grows very slowly & spreads to lymph nodes in your neck. Follicular thyroid cancer: This type of cancer occurs in almost 10-15% of the cases. It spreads from lymph nodes to body vessels. Medullary cancer: Less common type cancer which can be easily found out at an early stage through a blood test. Anaplastic thyroid cancer: Rare cancer, very aggressive, and spreads to other body parts at a very faster rate compared with other cancers. Cause The

Kidney Cancer Symptoms & treatment

Kidney cancer is also called Renal cancer. The cells in the kidney grow abnormally forming a tumor. These tumors are of 3 types- Malignant, indolent, or benign. Malignant and indolent tumors both are cancerous but indolent rarely spreads to other body parts than malignant tumors. The benign tumors grow but don't spread to other parts & are almost non-cancerous. Types of Kidney Cancer  Renal cell carcinoma: This is the most common type of malignant kidney cancer in adults. It occurs when cancer grows in the lining of tubules. This is the fastest spreading cancer to other body parts. Transitional cell carcinoma: In this cancer occurs in the tubes connecting the kidney with the bladder. In this type, cancer starts in the ureters and later in the bladder. Wilms Tumors: This is the most common cancer in children & rarely seen in adults. Benign kidney Tumors: Most benign tumors are non-cancerous and don't spread to other parts of the body. These are removed from the kidn

What is Black fungus? Why it's affecting COVID Patients?

Image
Mucormycosis or black fungus is an infection that affects the individuals whose immune system is not functioning properly. It develops black colour colonies in infected areas.  It is present mainly in soil & decomposed waste as fungal spores and spread through soil & air. These fungal spores enter into the body either through inhalation/ingestion or in rare cases enters the body through a wound.  Therefore It's impossible to avoid the infection but our body has a strong defense system to fight against this fungal disease. Hence you need not worry much if you're immunocompetent. Black fungus is non contagious, doesn't spread from humans to humans or from animals to humans . It's a rare infection but a very serious condition. It mainly affects lungs and brains. It poses a threat in patients with weak immune systems. Who is at risk?  Individuals with chronic uncontrolled diabetes, chronic kidney disease, chronic liver disease, COPD, Asthma, TB etc Those who are o

Liver cancer: Cause,Symptoms and Treatment

Image
The liver is one of the most important organs in our body which helps in blood purification & detoxification. Liver cancer occurs when the normal cells in the liver grow abnormally resulting in damage to other tissues in the organ. Liver cancer is also known as hepatic cancer. Cancer that affects the normal cells of the liver(Hepatocytes) is called Hepatocellular carcinoma whereas cancer that occurs in ducts is called cholangiocarcinoma. Metastatic liver cancer is a condition in which cancer starts in the liver primarily then spreads to other organs later on.  Liver cancer can also occur from other cancerous cells of the body through the bloodstream which is called Metastatic cancer. Some of the most common cancers that affect the liver are breast, colon, bladder, kidney, ovary, pancreas, stomach, uterus, and lungs. Let's have a look at the stages in the liver cancer through which your healthcare provider will start treatment. STAGE1: Tumor resides in the liver. STAGE2: Sever

Lung cancer: Cause & risk factors, Symptoms and Treatment

Image
Lung cancer is the main reason for most of the cancer deaths in the world. Cancer in the lungs develops when the normal lung cells change into abnormal cancer cells. These cancer cells rapidly multiply which results in tumors. This tumor grows & destroys the healthy lung cells. It also spreads to other organs through blood & lymph.  There are two common types of lung cancers classified based on their cell type & how they show under the microscope. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer(NSCLC) Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) NSCLC is the most common type of cancer that we can see in most cases compared with SCLC. But SCLC is very aggressive& spreads quickly. NSCLC includes Adenocarcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas & Large cell carcinomas To determine the progression of the disease & let's discuss lung cancer stages in NSCLC. OCCULT - Cancer cells exist in lung fluids.  STAGE 0 - In this stage, cancer cells are found on the lining of the Airways. STAGE I - Tumor formation
